ISLAMABAD, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The number of cellular subscribers in Pakistan has mounted up to 145 million with a teledensity of 71.42 percent, officials have said.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority revealed on Friday that about 48 million out of the 145 million people in the country are using 3G and 4G technology, which was introduced in the country in 2014.

The teledensity for 3G and 4G subscribers in the country is 23.81 percent, and all four major cellular networks are providing this facility.

The officials said that 3G and 4G technology has not been yet introduced to many areas and once the infrastructure is installed across the country, the number of subscribers will further increase.

The telecom sector of the country is growing on a rapid pace. Recently, the northern Gilgit Baltistan area at Pakistan-China border has got 3G and 4G services and the residents believe that the arrival of such services will boost commerce, bring socio-economic prosperity for the people living there.
