BUDAPEST, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Tamas Gyarfas, former president of the Hungarian Swimming Federation (MUSZ), was arrested on Tuesday for the case of the murder of media tycoon Janos Fenyo in 1998.

According a statement published by the Hungarian police, Tamas Gyarfas, referred to as Tamas Gy., 69 years old Budapest citizen, has been arrested and his interrogation is still underway.

Gyarfas is suspected for being in connection with the murder of Fenyo committed on Feb. 11, 1998 when the victim was shot dead in his personal car by a machine gun.

According to news portal "Pestisracok", Gyarfas is being suspected by the National Bureau of Investigation (NNI) for commissioning mobster Tamas Portik 20 years ago to kill Fenyo, his main rival.

Other Hungarian news portals such as Index.hu, 444.hu and HVG have also reported the information based on their own sources.

Besides being the president of MUSZ from 1993 and 2016, Gyarfas has also been the owner of leftist news television Nap-TV from the beginning of the 1990s to 2009.

Pestisracok said that "rock-hard evidence, such as voice records" was backing up the case. The lawyer of Gyarfas, Janos Banati was not available for comments.

According to a statement issued earlier by the Hungarian police, the investigation of the murder has been re-opened late October 2017 to find out who ordered the kill against the media entrepreneur.
