NEW DELHI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- A new currency note of 100 Indian rupees denomination will be launched soon, said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in a statement on Thursday.

All the banknotes in the denomination of 100 Indian rupees issued by the Reserve Bank in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender, added the statement.

The new currency notes has motif of "Rani ki Vav" on the reverse depicting the country's cultural heritage. "Rani ki Vav" is an intricately constructed stepwell situated in the Patan town in western state of Gujarat, located on the banks of Saraswati river.

The base color of the note is lavender, said the RBI statement, adding that the note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall color scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.

The new currency note will be 66 mm long and 142 mm wide.

Currently, the Indian currency has notes in the denominations of 2,000, 500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1, besides the metal coins in the denominations of 1, 2, 5 and 10.

On Nov. 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetization of all currency notes in the denominations of 500 and 1,000, and introduced new currency notes in the denominations of 2,000 and 500 Indian rupees, in a bid to check circulation of black money and fake currency.
