ULAN BATOR, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A high school teacher was drowned in river floods near Ulan Bator while trying to take selfies with two students, according to the police cited by local media on Wednesday.

The students were rescued, who had joined a picnic with the 42-year-old female teacher, surnamed M, near the bank of Tuul River last Sunday.

This is the first registered selfie death in Mongolia, said the police.

Meteorological services warned that water levels of major rivers had risen to dangerous levels, with downpours hitting the country since the beginning of this month.

Meteorologists forecast heavy rains across a large part of the country wouldn't stop until the end of this month, urging residents in stricken areas to take extra precautions.

Floods have claimed 52 lives, including 11 children, so far this year, said Mongolian National Emergency Management Agency.
