KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Monday named himself as the chairman of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the country's sovereign wealth fund, days after the en-masse resignation of the board.

Azmin Ali, minister of economic affairs, is also appointed as the director of the board, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

Other directors have also been appointed.

The appointments will take immediate effect, according to the statement.

However, the appointment of the managing director of the fund will be made at a later date, it said.

Last week, all nine members of Khazanah's board of directors, including the managing director, offered to resign.

Mahathir had said he welcomed the board members' resignation as it is a move to clear the deck to allow the new government to restructure the fund in line with policies of the new administration.
