NANCHANG, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- A man has been detained in east China's Jiangxi Province for killing wild animals during a live stream, police said Tuesday.

A video of the suspect holding a skinned wild animal and asking viewers to follow him went viral on the Internet last week.

"If you like rural life, just follow me on the app, and I will take you to experience life deep in the forest," the suspect said.

Police in Wuning County said that they were informed of the case in January, and later detained the suspect, surnamed Zhou. As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, all videos on the suspect's live streaming account had been deleted.

          Further investigation is under way.

Live streaming emerged in China in 2005, and made a significant breakthrough in 2016, while problems such as the streaming of obscenity, violence, and other inappropriate content surfaced as the market gained prosperity.

Revenue from live streaming reached 30.45 billion yuan (4.85 billion U.S. dollars) in China last year, according to the Ministry of Culture.
