KAMPALA, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Derrick Nsibambi has joined Egyptian Premier League side Smouha FC from the Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) on a three-year deal.

KCCA FC communications officer Moses Magero told Xinhua on Wednesday that the striker, who also plays for the national team, had signed with the Egyptian side on Tuesday.

"The player returns this Friday to sort out a few issues before he rejoins his new club for the preseason," Magero said.

The 23-year-old striker, who was instrumental in helping KCCA FC reach the group stage of the 2018 Confederation of African Football Champions League, also made his debut for the national team last year.

"I am happy for Nsibambi. Although he has not had a good season in-terms of returns for goals, [I] hope he will fit in well at the professional stage. We shall continue to build more players at KCCA FC who can take us to the next level," Mike Mutebi, the KCCA FC coach said on Wednesday.

Nsibambi joins two other Ugandan players plying their trade in the Egyptian Premier League: Hassan Wasswa Mawanda (El Geish) and defender Issac Muleme (Al Assiouty Sports Club).

Uganda now has several professional players featuring in different leagues in Africa like South Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana.
