NAIROBI, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Beijing javelin world champion Julius Yego on Friday clinched his ticket to the Africa Championships, which will be held in Asaba, Nigeria and immediately promised to deliver gold for Kenya.

It will be the third time that the 28-year-old will be competing at the Africa Championships and though he acknowledged his form has been wanting, the Olympic silver medalist believes he is on the right path to dominate the sport again.

"The important thing was for me to shake off my injury concerns and secure the ticket to Africa championships. It will be my third show and I want to make it remarkable and win gold again for Kenya," he said on Friday in Nairobi.

The Africa Championships will run from Aug. 1-5 with the top two athletes from each discipline qualifying for the World Cup (IAAF Continental Cup) which will be held in Ostrava, Czech Republic in Sept. 18-19.

Yego who holds a personal best throw of 92.72 meters, which he earned in Beijing in 2015, has struggled to display his past form.

Africa race walking queen Grace Wanjiru, has her eyes set on the continental crown for a seventh time after clocking one hour, 33 minutes and 01 seconds.
