TOKYO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Tuesday following the Dow Jones Industrial Average's overnight rise and the U.S. and Canada forging ahead with a trade deal, which gave Japanese automakers with factories in the United States a boost.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 157.52 points, or 0.65 percent, from Monday to 24,403.28.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 17.55 points, or 0.97 percent, at 1,835.51.

Oil and coal product, mining, and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
