LONDON, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Queen Elizabeth II will call upon the British people to show more respect to those with opposing views three months ahead of the UK's departure from the European Union.

In her message to mark Christmas, the 92-year-old Queen urges the British people to respect each other as human beings, saying that a message of "peace on earth and goodwill to all" is needed "as much as ever."

"Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding," the Queen will say in her annual festive broadcast on Tuesday.

As head of state, the British monarch, who has been on the throne for 66 years, remains publicly neutral to political matters.

The Queen poses for a photo after she recorded her Christmas Day message, in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace in London.

She delivered her very first Christmas broadcast on the radio on Dec. 25, 1952.
