        1. Malaysia's construction sector work-done value grows 5.1 percent on year in 2018

          KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's construction sector work-done value for 2018 rose 5.1 percent to 145.5 billion ringgit (about 35.73 billion U.S. dollars), official statistics showed Monday.

          As comparison, the work-done value in 2017 surged 9.2 percent year-on-year to 138.5 billion ringgit.

          Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the construction sector work-done value rose 4.1 percent year-on-year to 36.5 billion ringgit (about 8.96 billion U.S. dollars) in the fourth quarter last year.

          The expansion in value of construction work done in the fourth quarter was driven by positive growth in the civil engineering, special trades activities and non-residential buildings sub-sectors, which grew by 14.3 percent, 8.2 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively.

          However, the residential buildings sub-sector declined to 9.2 percent.

          In terms of contributions, civil engineering sub-sector continued to dominate the performance of value of construction work done with 42.6 percent share, followed by non-residential buildings which accounted for 28.4 percent.

          Residential buildings and special trades activities made up of 24.2 percent and 4.8 percent respectively.

          The private sector continued to propel the construction activity with 56.2 percent share as compared to the public sector with 43.8 percent share.
