DHAKA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived here early Sunday in a joint visit with World Bank President Jim Yong Kim to assess the needs for the nearly one million Rohingya refugees driven from their homes in Myanmar.

The visit from July 1, according to the announcement from the U.N. headquarters in New York, would highlight the "generosity" of Bangladesh in hosting the largest refugee influx of 2017 and the need for the international community to do more.

Kim and Guterres, who are all set to visit the Rohingya refugees living in the camps in the country's Cox's Bazar district, some 292 km southeast of capital Dhaka, had separate meetings with Bangladeshi authorities, including with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday and attended other events in Dhaka.

On Monday, they will visit refugees and aid workers at the Cox's Bazar.

In Cox's Bazar, the two chiefs will review the entire situation of the newly arrived Rohingyas since August, 2017 in Bangladesh, and assess the progress towards a safe, voluntary and dignified return of refugees in line with international standards.
